VWt Magazine – Issue 135 – September 2023

Hello and welcome to issue 135 of VWt magazine. You know what? It’s an exciting time to be a Volkswagen enthusiast, especially if you’re a lover of van shaped ones. Whilst many car manufacturers are churning out somewhat boring new offerings, VW have recently released both theID. Buzz and Multivan. Both are still rare sightings on the road, however, I’ve definitely spotted a few more on my journeys of late and they’re kind of growing
on me. What about you?
I know for many, the thought of these two in our van space can be a tad strange, as we love our Transporters and the way they look already. But change is inevitable, as the Greek philosopher Heraclitus once said: “The only constant in life is change.” Just remember whatever comes, it’s great news for the scene. As new models mean new upgrades, new technology and new drivers with a passion for Volkswagens. All things that will help the scene we love continue to strive and survive.
Talking of the new breed, this issue sees our first ever feature on a Multivan, the replacement vehicle for the Caravelle, or so we’re told. Then again, it was also called the T7 originally – which seems to have been dropped from most of the official literature – which we never really got as it’s not a straightforward replacement for the Transporter… though there is a Multivan California on
the way. Anyway, as always like with most new VWs, it was our friends over at Transporter HQ that were fi rst to take a Multivan apart. In fact, it had barely left Hanover before it was at their Loughborough base and in pieces. And they’ve already done the same with an ID. Buzz.
Don’t fret though, if slightly older metal is your thing, we’ve got you covered! We have in-depth features on Lee Smith’s slammed, carbon fibre race seated T5.1 camper, Martin Lacey’s fully loaded T5.1 and go Down Under to see Alex Caruana’s T6 4 Motion with Trakkadu AT conversion. We also take a trip to Belgium to see Xeno Brys’ Tieforange bike hauling T4 Doka. Plus, there’s all the usual event coverage, new products, staff builds and more…
