The Woodworker & Woodturner – June 2019
English | 100 pages | pdf | 10.15 MBSometimes we all need a break, and as many of our loyal readers will no doubt know by now, my go-to destination is Cornwall. I’m not sure what it is, but there’s something about the country air and sea breeze that just lifts the senses and spirits, and whenever I’m feeling like I need to kick back for a few days or find some inspiration, I always escape to the West Country. So this is where I am as I write this month’s welcome page. gazing out across rolling fields. where I can see stunning coastline and the gentle rise and fall of waves. while listening to various types of bird song. I have to admit that even though I love IMng in the city and couldn’t imagine not having so many things on my doorst ep, all within walking distance. as I inevitably get older. I do find myself craving the calmer countryside more and more …
Local crafts
While exploring Tintagel the other day, I was most pleased to find a selection of local crafts in a number of different gift shops. many of them wooden. including a fine selection of bowls and platters, all turned by local craftsmen, as well as some turned pens. honey dippers and wooden pendants. crafted in the Celtic style. While these are relatively small items, I don’t doubt that no matter where we are in the country, or indeed the wortd. we are never far from a woodworker – be that a tradesman or hobbyist – which means that using Sammy Bogie. Sammy’s passion for The Woodworker & Woodturner magazine (which he’s been reading since the mid-80s) really came across and hearing from him certainty made my day, so thank you, Sammy! We were also thrilled to have another update on Matt Russell’s woodworking journey. Matt wrote in a while back telling us how he’d just started to get in to it and having now retired. he’s
been able to dedicate even more time to his hobby, so much so that he’s even built a second workshop to house his growing amount of kit! The luxury of more space has obviously allowed Matt to broaden his repertoire, so look out for some photos of what he’s been making next month. The Alan Peters Furniture Award We’re also pleased to announce that following our exciting announcement in the May issue, the finishing touches are being made to the T&Cs and logistics for our forthcoming Alan Peters f urniture Award, and we hope it won’t be long until we can bring you full entry and prize details. In the meantime, you can be assured that we’re working hard behind the scenes to bring this all together to ensure that we come up with a competition which Alan Peters himself would be proud of. So for all you woodworkers out there, we hope you continue to enjoy your journey, learning and growing all the while, and long may our magazine continue to play an important part in that. this logic, we should have a fair few readers down here! Enjoy!
