When it comes to taking great guns and making them better, now seems to be the time for just such a reboot for several big firearms companies, as you’ll see within these pages.
A perfect example is Smith & Wes-son’s popular M&P15, a basic AR-15 that has been well known to get the job done no matter what the application. Smith’s newest model, the 15T II (see page 46) takes it far beyond the entry-level AR that the line was designed to be, adding all the bells and whistles necessary to make it a great carbine for personal defense and shooting sports. Incredibly, it still retains that entry-level price tag!
And talk about reboots, how about the new FN SCARs, which do away with the reciprocating charging handle? Coverage starts on page 80.
Think Mossberg couldn’t make their popular Shockwave even better? Well, they definitely did. Check out the new Shockwave 590S on page 112 to learn what makes this new scattergun the best “firearm” in the Shockwave line.
And don’t count out the Hi-Power, even though Browning took it out of production back in 2018. Learn all about Springfield’s new and improved Hi-Power, the SA-35, on page 26. Plus, meet the pistolsmith known as the grand master of the Grand Puissance starting on page 38. If reboots aren’t your thing, we’ve got you covered with some fantastic new guns and ammo that you’ll have to see to believe. The Christensen Arms bolt-ac-tion MPP (page 62) is an awesome compact package of .308 firepower. And don’t miss Daniel Defense’s foldable AR pistol (page 118) made possible with help from Law Tactical and SB Tactical.
As for ammunition, believe it or not, it’s time to go “brassless.” Learn all about True Velocity’s Future Ammo, a 6.8 TVC round with a composite case, on page 54 as author Sean Utley puts it through its paces through a Lonestar Future Weap-ons NGSW solicitation bullpup!
Are you concerned about the ongoing difficulties finding the guns and ammo you want at your local gun shop? One top-tier company is doing something about it. Check out page 106 to find out about Wilson Combat’s 16,000-square-foot expansion, and learn about the company’s brand new Experior—a great 1911-style 9mm pistol that just might be on your want list soon.
As for our covers this magazine issue, news-stand readers are treated to beautiful photography of that new Springfield SA-35 mentioned earlier. On our sub-scriber cover is the remarkable new Lonestar RM277 vying for the NGSW military contract. So, buckle up and get ready for a wild jaunt through page after page of tactical goodness. We’re glad you’re along for the ride! —The Editors
