Switch Player Magazine – January 2022
English | 100 pages | pdf | 90.55 MB

Welcome to a rather special edition of Switch Player Magazine.
This 60th issue marks a whopping five years since we launched, all the way back in February 2017. We thought that now was as good a time as any to mix things up a bit, and launch head-on into what will probably be seen as the Switch’s second half of its life. Am I really being so optimistic as to predict a ten-year lifespan for our beloved hybrid? Yes, yes I am.
And so, readers, you hold in your hands the first expanded, pumped-up, 100-page issue of Switch Player Magazine. From 2022 onwards, we plan to be a bi-monthly publication, to bring you better value for money, and establish ourselves as an ongoing concern for a long and happy future.
This issue is far from business-as-usual in one other important factor: the second annual Switch Player Game Awards! In keeping with our bulkier format, we’ve levelled-up on categories, too, to twelve from last year’s ten. 2020’s awards were noticeable for our championing of Hades as the SP GOTY. Many others recognised the indie’s quality, but few were quite as enamoured as we were. We feel we led the way, somewhat, so feast your eyes on this year’s selection to learn what the tastemakers valued most in 2021.
Apart from that, we’ve filled this issue with all our regulars, including a Pokemon-packed features section celebrating the imminent release of Arceus, the Game Room, a Yoku’s Island Express retrospective, and plenty more.
Have a very Happy 2022, from all at Switch Player!
Bobby Jack, Editor-in-Chief
