Hello & welcome at Sainsbury’s Magazine May 2023 issue

We Brits love our bank holidays, and this month we have three to enjoy – on the 1st, the 8th and the 29th. They are all lovely excuses to gather family and friends and enjoy delicious food and drink together, and hopefully some early summer sunshine will take a starring role and we can eat alfresco. It seems like nowadays we will take any opportunity to take our meals outside, whether it’s breakfast on a sunny patio, a full-on barbecue party complete with garden lighting, or a picnic on a windy beach. It’s become part of our national psyche, and I’m all for it – so I’m pleased to say the issue has plenty of recipe inspiration for outdoor eating occasions, from our spice-loaded picnic loaf on the cover (page 83) to the delicious barbecue ideas on page 54.
But the biggest news (for us, at least!) is that this is the 30th birthday issue of Sainsbury’s magazine. We’ll be raising a glass to our teams past and present and, of course, to you, our readers. It’s so satisfying to know that the magazine and its recipes continue to inspire you all to cook something new, try different ingredients and experiment in the kitchen. You can read all about the magazine’s journey and the food trends we’ve encountered along the way on page 11. Of course, we wouldn’t exist without our co-founder Delia Smith; do reminisce with some of her best recipes on page 62.
