Welcome at RV Travel Lifestyle Magazine July-August 2023 issue

The shortest day has passed and evening skies are already starting to lighten. Before we know it, spring will be upon us.
In RV Travel Lifestyle Magazine July-August 2023 issue the Rock and I celebrate a 28-year anniversary. We decided to fly to Queenstown for a week’s adventure that included racing around Highlands Motorsport Park in a Ferrari at 225kph. This was followed by a bucket-list trip to Milford Sound for an overnight cruise on the Milford Mariner to take in the playful dolphins and the waterfalls cascading down incredibly steep cliff faces, and finishing with another bucket-list trip in a jet boat down the Kawarau River. A great trip in gorgeous autumnal weather – thankfully the snow and cold didn’t hit the region until the day after we left.
Gary hits the southern slopes with a trip to map the Coronet Loop Trail, a high-country ride into the Skippers area behind the hills of Arrowtown; a ride I’m happy to share by reading about his adventure, as it is an intermediate/advanced trail (Grade 3–4) through incredible landscapes, but out of our scope for sure.
A bit further north we stop at the DOC parks near Geraldine to explore the forests and gorges, the walking and cycling trails.
Over on the West Coast, Allan and Helen drive the campervan from Jackson Bay to Seddonville north of Westport, meeting a beer-loving dog, a gold miner, a trio of Dick’s and enjoying all the locals along the way.
Up north Sheryl and Neill enjoy a river raft adventure on the Rangitikei river in the Manawatū – looks like they had great fun. On the way home they took a side road trip up the Whanganui River Road to Pipiriki, an inland trip alongside the Whanganui River that we must put onto our ‘must-do’ road trip list. After 160,000km around New Zealand you would think we had been on every road, but there are still plenty to be explored.
In Northland the Whangārei Quarry Gardens suffered some damage in the cyclone activity of summer. Sheryl went to check out the damage and happily reports the gardens are open for business still.
RV-wise we check out the UK Rocket, UK Swift Celebrate and AU Jayco Starcraft caravans that featured at the NZMCA Christchurch Motorhome, Caravan & Leisure show, alongside the latest Laika Ecovip Italian motorhome from RV Supercentre.
Richard finishes the 2012 Rainbow bus conversion in the final part of his story, and next issue he’ll start work on a retro caravan restoration. While down south we also checked out the Kiwi Camping Exhibition at Bill Richardson Transport World in Invercargill, examined the John Britten 1926 International motorhome, a line-up of Starliner caravans and more. We take you inside the caravans that visitors can’t access.
Watch the videos of our trips, go-Kart racing, Ferrari hot laps, our Milford overnight cruise, jet boat trip and the retro caravan exhibition.
Travel safe over winter and make a start on planning your spring and summer adventures.
