Welcome at Retro Pop Magazine August 2023 Issue

It’s 2023 and the mighty Wham! are back on the cover of a pop mag, right where they belong, celebrating 40 years of hits! Coinciding with the anniversary of their chart breakthrough and what would have been George Michael’s 60th birthday, the pop legends are being honoured with a brand new greatest hits album and a fantastic Netflix documentary that’s an absolute must-see. For this month’s cover feature, we revisit the pop legacy George and Andrew Ridgeley carved out together, looking back on all of their iconic singles, going behind the scenes of their feature-length film, and catching up with the fabulous Pepsi & Shirlie, who were by their side every step of the way.
There’s so much more going on in this issue that I don’t even know where to begin: we meet the group taking on the roles of Take That in the new movie musical ‘Greatest Days’; the brilliant Bonnie Tyler stops by to celebrate 40 years of Total Eclipse of the Heart; Aussie singing sensation Tina Arena tells all about her first album in eight years; and we explore how Blur came to define the Britopop era and carve a 30-year career!
Plus, electro-pop star Georgia introduces her excellent new album, ‘Euphoric’ – if you don’t already know her, she’s the daughter of Leftfield’s Neil Barnes and her music’s just brilliant – and the new soul sensation on the scene, Acantha Lang, talks to us about her phenomenal debut LP.
We also take a moment to celebrate the life and legacy of Tina Turner, who spent 50 years wowing us with some of the finest recordings in pop and rock history. I, like so many of us, was devastated by news of her passing, but listening back to her catalogue has been a reminder of just how phenomenal an artist she truly was.
Tina, we love you – and thank you!
