Welcome at Radio Control DroneZone magazine Issue 37 April-May 2022

Early February 2022 saw the UK weather return to its more familiar cold and windy conditions; perfectly timed for the arrival of DJI’s Mavic 3 and the short period of our loan agreement.
Sadly, Brexit issues such as trying to explain to the international courier company that there wasn’t a receipt of purchase – because we hadn’t actually bought it – delayed its delivery to us whilst it sat in “quarantine” in a Heathrow warehouse! Eventually, the very heavy, Fly More Combo-package arrived from Germany and into our hands, just as some relatively warm and dry conditions came to an end and the remnants of a couple of storms came through. This would really challenge our reviewer, Tom Stacey, who was testing the Mavic 3, as we only get around ten days with DJI samples before the courier comes knocking and it has to go back to DJI GmbH. In hindsight though, this was a blessing in disguise as the blustery winds meant that the performance of the Chinese brand’s flagship Mavic model was highlighted in weather that you would usually avoid going outside in!
Fortunately for some of our other features in this issue, the likes of Ian Peckett and Dave Dijkmans have a little more time, and were able to find better weather to fly their helis. The latter resides in a lovely part of southern Spain so Dave usually has many more good days than bad when it comes to sun and warm temperatures, whilst Ian like myself has to put up with the often random weather that we get in the UK. As I write this editorial and look out on another cold and miserable day, I am only just a little jealous of Mr Dijkmans’s glorious European location, as you will see from his photos of the SAB Goblin Raw Nitro in action…
