Need a Good Walk?

THE OTHER DAY I said to my dog, “This has got to be a quick walk, Penny. I am so busy.” She didn’t argue—she never does!—but outside, she did start pulling toward the Hudson River, her favorite place. “Fine,” I said (I’m a pushover), and our walk morphed from a fiveminute “business trip” to a 45-minute meditative stroll. My work was still waiting for me, and yet—I bet you know where this is going—I was so much less stressed by it. Thanks for the nudge, Penny!
Walking is so powerful, and that’s why we hope you’ll join our spring Virtual Walk on May 1 (walk wherever you are and know that thousands of others are doing the same!).
Here are a few highlights for this year:

OUR FACEBOOK COMMUNITY:

Prevention Virtual Walkers is a warm, welcoming group led by our Virtual Walk Ambassadors. People share pics of where they walk, give and get advice, and cheer one another on. It makes social media a surprisingly restorative place!

KOYA WEBB’S WALKING PLAN:

Our trainer for this spring created a great new guide to getting to 5K. It’s clear and helpful, but also flexible and confidence-boosting.Hear more from Koya on page 37; you’re going to love her.
THE “WHY I WALK” CONTEST:

Some past winners are quoted starting on page 34, and we truly love to read every entry (there are thousands!). You are an incredibly inspiring bunch. Learn more about walking on page 32, and the Virtual Walk itself on page 41 and at prevention.com/virtual-walk. Now, do you need a walk? My dog thinks it’ll do you good. Enjoy!
