All of us at MusicTech magazine are thrilled to present our brand-new podcast. My Forever Studio has a simple premise: Imagine you have an unlimited budget and can spec up your perfect studio. Where would it be? What would it look like? And what gear would you want in it?
Our hosts are our very own Features Editor Will Betts and regular contributor Chris Barker. During the podcast, they ask artists, studio pros and industry luminaries to imagine a studio that they would be happy to live out their days in, their ultimate music-making space.
There are some rules in the Forever Studio, however. Guests are limited to just six pieces of music or production gear in their studio, plus one non-gear-related item. And, to stop the music intelligentsia from cheating the system, there’s a strict no-bundle policy. Season 1 is running now, featuring guests including Danny Byrd, Strongroom Studios, Hinako Omori and Beardyman.
Between them, podcast co-hosts Chris Barker and Will Betts have decades of music production, media, DJing and songwriting experience, and they’re having plenty of fun with their guests and subject matter. Co-host Chris Barker says, “It’s been an enormous amount of fun to make, and I think that comes across in the recordings. It’s nerds like us having fun dreaming up their ideal studio —what’s not to love?”
Will says, “We basically just made a podcast we’d want to listen to. Listeners will enjoy getting a real insight into our guests’ approaches and what inspires them to create.”
