A BETTER APP EXPERIENCE

AS YOU MIGHT have noticed from our team column to the right, our beloved art editor is leaving us for pastures new. I just wanted to say a huge thanks to Matt for his hard work and dedication to the magazine over the years. Matt has implemented many beneficial design changes since he joined, and has a keen eye for editorial anomalies. I disagree with his cover choice though: 171 was clearly the best.
That’s not all that’s changing this issue. If you read my opinion page last month, you’ll know that this issue marks our very first all–digital one. If you’ve only ever read MacLife UK magazine on an iPad or iPhone, this might come as news to you as, well, it doesn’t affect you because you’re already reading the digital magazine. That said, following on from our digital transition, there are changes afoot. Our digital team has been working hard on the Mac|Life app these last few months, and in the coming weeks we’re going to be releasing a brand–new version of the app. As well as a complete visual overhaul, the app will be easier to navigate, and you’ll be able to get to your issues more easily. The app will also have a new RSS feed, so you’ll be able to check out the latest Apple news while you peruse your magazine copies. What’s more, we’re hoping to bring the Mac|Life digital experience to Mac owners — if you have an Apple silicon Mac, then you will be able to use the app on your machine, in the same way you would on an iPad or iPhone. I’ve already seen the pre–release version, and I’m really happy with the way it looks.
Onto the issue itself now, which is packed with great content. This month’s main feature is our iCloud guide. As someone who regularly uses all the features (I couldn’t be without iCloud Drive and Files), iCloud is priceless to me, so I consider this essential reading. The redesigned iCloud.com website is well worth a look. If you work on your Mac a great deal, but often feel burnt out, I’d also highly recommend checking out our guide to staying focused (p57), to help improve your productivity. And if you’ve the time, check out our tips for improving Safari (p50).
