Welcome Leisure Painter Magazine August 2023
David Bellamy kicks off this month’s issue with the first of a two-part series of articles on producing family histories for future generations to enjoy, or personal illustrated journals inspired by your own life and memories. Within the article he discusses the inspiration behind his journal – his grandfather and the part he played in the Boer War – and the materials and methods David used, alongside a host of tips and ideas to help you create varied illustrated pages of your own. I’d love to hear from readers who use their artistic skills in this way to create a book of memories from a lifetime or a holiday, or a history of another member of the family. Enjoy the challenge and let me know how you get on.
Leisure Painter Magazine is also celebrating the launch of fellow editorial consultant, Tim Fisher’s latest book (Palette Knife Painting in Acrylics, to be published by Search Press early next month) with an advanced peak inside the book – a colourful demonstration of beach huts for you to follow – and the launch of our new summer landscape painting competition. You are invited to enter original artwork in your favourite medium and style for a chance to win a painting by Tim and a copy of his new book, courtesy of Search Press. We will also publish some of the winning artwork in a future issue. As you enjoy the months of summer sunshine ahead, I hope you will be inspired to find that perfect view to paint. As always, we’ve packed this issue with step-by-step demonstrations, tips and techniques and practical advice to help you draw and paint successfully. If there’s something we’ve missed, let us know!
Finally, for those of you who are heading to Patchings Artfest in July, you are invited to wear one of our stickers, which will identify you to other readers. Pick up a sticker at our marquee throughout the three days of the festival – and don’t forget to say hello while you’re there.
