HELLO, AND WELCOME to the latest issue of Hornby Magazine. It has been a busy few weeks as we have been working behind the scenes on several new projects including our latest ‘OO’ gauge diesel depot exhibition layout which debuts on pages 26-33, as well as at Model Rail Scotland. It has been great watching it develop and you can read all about it in this issue – and also see it all coming together in the first of a four-part video series launching on KeyModelWorld.com on March 10.
One of the highlights of the new layout is an incredible four-track diesel depot building inspired by the former Stratford TMD in East London. The depot buildings are bespoke lasercut wooden kits and if you are looking to build a depot layout of your own, these super new kits are available to purchase exclusively through the Key Publishing shop. Find out more on p28.
That’s not the only exclusive this issue as we also reveal details of our next limited edition locomotive commission – an all-new Accurascale ‘OO’ gauge Class 31 finished as 31276 Calder Hall Power Station in BR Railfreight coal sector livery. Full details can be found on p16 with the model available to order from February 24.
Amazingly, it is also that time of year when we can exclusively reveal the first tranche of layouts set to appear at the 2023 Great Electric Train Show in October – it seems only five minutes ago that we were welcoming you to the 2022 exhibition! The event will take place on October 14/15 at the Marshall Arena in Milton Keynes and we have some outstanding layouts booked to attend, including Pete Waterman’s latest ‘OO’ gauge West Coast Main Line creation which promises to be truly spectacular. Watch out for more announcements over the coming months.
Between now and then, we are really excited to be out and about at several model railway exhibitions over the coming months. On April 1/2, the Statfold Model Railway Exhibition is set to take place once again at the Statfold Narrow Gauge Museum in Staffordshire. The venue is a genuine eye-opener as it houses the most
amazing collection of narrow gauge locomotives and rolling stock – if you visit, you really must check out the Roundhouse and museum. The exhibition entry price also includes unlimited train and tram rides.
As a sponsor of the model railway event, we will be there all weekend with two layouts including Hornby Magazine’s new ‘OO’ gauge diesel depot and our popular ‘OO9’ Fairlie Syniad Da narrow gauge model. If you are planning to visit, please do pop by and say hello: we would love to see you there.
In addition to the excitements already covered, this latest issue is packed with news – including two new ‘OO’ locomotive announcements – three super feature layouts, step-by-step modelling guides, the latest reviews and much more. I do hope you enjoy the new issue!
