I recently went to a very interesting food industry event called The Future of Food. A panel of experts, including scientists, farmers and journalists, were debating both the impact of what we grow, produce and eat on the planet (and how we do it) and also the politics of food production, from government legislation to how the cost of living crisis is affecting people’s food choices.
There are clearly no quick and easy answers. It’s such a huge and complicated subject, but here at Sainsbury’s magazine we believe there are ways each of us can make a small but significant difference. By choosing to buy ethically and sustainably produced food when it’s available and if we can afford it, while minimising the amount of food we throw away, we’ll all be doing our bit.
With that in mind, our feature on page 27 identifies 25 of these quick wins, and our senior food producer Tamsin’s regular page, The Conscious Kitchen, on page 37 highlights more each month.
