Digital FilmMaker – July 2018: Endless blue skies and wall-to-wall sunshine isn’t always as welcome as you might think, at least if you’re a filmmaker out on location. With the UK enjoying one of the best summer spells in ages, the country has been basking in high temperatures for what seems like ages. On some levels that’s good news if you’ve got a cast and crew out on location, but working in bright light and heat isn’t always ideal. The light is harsh, there are the beads of sweat that can ruin a scene unless they’re called for and the fatigue eventually sets in for actors in costumes. Meanwhile, crew suffer from lugging all the kit around. Of course, if you’re making a film about chilling out on the beach then the recent fine weather has probably been perfect for your agenda. However, spare a thought for those filmmakers who are aiming for a decidedly non-summery look. We’ve heard of more than a few shoots that have been put on hold until the weather breaks. Some have even been waiting in the wings for the rain to start again. Who’d have thought it! Nevertheless, we’ve got a fine crop of projects for you this issue and, unsurprisingly, there’s some sunshine on show too. Meanwhile, will it be raining by the time issue 59 comes out on August 16th? One or two folks around here would like to think so. See you then.
