Have you ever really stopped and considered just how intrinsic to the music we love the cover version is? The more you think about it, the more ubiquitous they are. And, let’s be honest here, I bet there are songs that you loved for a long time before you ever realised they were even someone else’s song originally. I know that was certainly the case for me.
This month we look at the art of the cover version, talking to bands and artists who have been covered and those who have done the covering. We’ve also taken deep dive on some cover versions that have become bona fide rock classics.
That’s not all, though. We also bid a fond farewell to Budgie’s Burke Shelley (p8), a man who was no stranger to what a cover version by a high-profile band could do for you; chat to Beth Hart – including about her album of Led Zep covers! (p18); hang out with blues maestro Eric Gales (p64); take a trip back in time to Bowie’s 50th-birthday bash at Madison Square Garden in 1997 (p104); and much more.
Oh, and I know I mentioned it last month, but please don’t forget to check out our podcast – The 20 Million Club, hosted by Nicky Horne (and if you approve and fancy reviewing it too, that’d do us a massive favour).
Until next month magazine issue …
