Something tells me the upcoming holiday season is going to be over the top. c./fitter last year’s pared-down festivities due to COVIC/J-19, most everyone is yearning for a return to traditions, if not a bit of spectacle. And I get it. My immediate family basically took a pass on the holidays in 2020, starting with Thanksgiving. Rather than prepare an elaborate spread, we went an entirely different route. It was just me, my husband, and our two kids home from college, so we grilled really good steaks., threw together a few sides, and our daughter and supreme baker, Abby, made the pumpkin chai cheesecake from last November’s cover. I have to say, we loved it-no stress, time together, plus cheesecake! Still,. it could’ve been any old Thursday night.
If any of this sounds familiar and you can’t wait to kick the holidays into high gear, this issue is for you. First up, the feast! In ”Thanksgiving, Three Ways” (page 104), we’ve culled a trio of menus-Low country favorites, vintage classics, and a decidedly decadent modern take-with recipes from our archives. Mix and match these dishes from noted -chefs and caterers to create your own memorable meal.
Next up, the presents. If you haven’t started your shopping, get to it. Our annual Holiday Gift Guide (page 76) has more than 200 ideas for everyone on your list, and-bonus?-they’re all from Charleston stores. We encourage you to buy local as much as possible; after a trying 2020, area retailers, artists, and artisans could use the love! And don’t miss the many festivities scheduled to celebrate the season (Must List, page 50 & About Town, page 151).
