Welcome at Caravan World Magazine June 2023 issue

Like thousands of fellow grey nomads, we are back on the road. We met up with a group from the Trakmaster Offroad Caravan Club in Narromine a few days ago, and we are on our way along the Oodnadatta Track to The Alice and west to Marble Bar, WA, across the Gary Junction Road. The club brought together 90 Trakmasters for their annual gathering at Narromine, and it was great to catch up with some friends, including Colin and Prue Kerr, who are long-time Trakkies and contributors to Caravan World.
The club celebrates its 20th anniversary later in ‘23 with a gathering in Tallangatta, Victoria, and the committee has asked me to promote the event to owners who aren’t members, and I’m happy to oblige. You will find the contacts for the club on the web.
But this has me thinking that we should offer the same consideration to other caravan clubs. If other clubs around caravan brands are anything like the Trakmaster group, then there’s a lot you can gain by getting involved. Members love nothing more than passing on tricks and suggestions about their vans, and there are numerous opportunities to join a travel group to any number of locations.
For example, on our current trip, we will be travelling to some remote spots, and there are years of experience from members to call on if we get in trouble. Not only that, there are old hands who know all the best camps and sights along the way.
So, let us know if other clubs are interested in promoting their events. If there’s enough interest, we could run a list of clubs and contacts and organise a calendar of events. Similarly, we are looking into making Caravan World more relevant in the caravanning community. We talk a lot about safety and the best way to enjoy your caravanning lifestyle. We have been kicking
around the idea of a Caravan World group for a while, but the events of the last couple of years have gotten in the way. It’s time to broaden our reach and give something back to our very loyal readership.
We should make some special offers to a Caravan World group who agree to a charter of behaviour on the road and when camping. Some ideas might include awareness of other road users, leaving a site in better shape than when you arrive, helping fellow travellers and so on.
I’m keen to hear what you think. Offer some suggestions on how it could work and what you hope to get from it or put into it.

Have fun,
John
