Australian Traveller – Issue 99, August-October 2023
English | 132 pages | pdf | 147.6 MB

SPRING IS ON THE HORIZON and this issue is all about waking up and tuning in. Not hitting snooze, but the reset button instead, and getting out there to experience Australia in all its sensory glory: from its coastal walking trails to its outback wilderness and from its wineries to its wellness retreats.
I find good vibrations and meaningful connections in the Barossa Valley, while Kassia Byrnes spends an immersive 24 hours at Horizontal Falls and Emily Murphy gives us a first look at Ulur-u’s spectacular new light show, Wintjiri Wir-u. Megan Arkinstall loses sense of time deep in the Flinders Ranges on the Arkaba Walk, while Celeste Mitchell has a very gourmet experience on WA’s Cape to Cape Track. Elizabeth Whitehead experiences one of Kakadu’s six seasons and Carla Grossetti finds a rich seam of First Nations arts and culture in Greater Brisbane.
Getting out there and feeling it all is something that everybody should be able to do. Which is why we’re running our first deep dive into inclusive travel. Long-time accessible and inclusive tourism advocate and publisher Julie Jones has seen first-hand how far the industry has come and how far it still has to go, and shares her insight with us on page 80. I hope this piece opens eyes but crucially, assists someone with their own adventure.
Excuse the cliché, but I can’t believe how fast the year is hurtling by. Here in the Australian Traveller Magazine office, we’re thinking ahead to October, when we will launch our 100th issue. As part of this celebration, we’d love to hear from you, our readers. What is your all-time favourite travel experience you’ve had in the past 18 years since the magazine launched in 2005? (Even better if it was inspired by something you read right here in Australian Traveller!)
Email me your recollections in approximately 100 words and they may be published in this very special edition.
Until then!
