Airways Magazine – March 2022

Every day, while I have my regular morning coffee, I like to look out of the window, chasing down the early morning sun, looking at the sky, seeking any visible contrail left by jetliners cruising over my hometown.
This was difficult during the heyday of the COVID-19 pandemic, when just one or two thin white lines crossed the airspace where dozens used to—a telltale sign of the ongoing crisis.
But, in the last few weeks, the contrails have been ticking up, crossing from north to south or east to west. Straight or curved, faint or thick. And, as they come back stronger by the day, we at Airways are returning to a monthly schedule.
In this issue, we commemorate the 40th anniversary of the first flight of Boing 757, one of the finest aircraft ever made. I believe that its distinctive nose and cockpit windows are just what a narrow-body should look like.
