Welcome at Coast Magazine September 2021 issue
There’s something unique about the British seaside, something that reflects some of our best characteristics as a nation. The traditional piers, beach huts and tidal pools that pattern our coastline represent our determination to enjoy the great outdoors whatever the weather, to have fun despite the rain, to make the most of what we have. A simple supper of fish and chips, a staple food of the working class in the 19th century, remains an affordable treat – best enjoyed on the beach, eaten in its paper wrapping with a wooden chip fork.
This summer, instead of travelling abroad, many people will be holidaying on the British coast, perhaps for the first time. I hope they all have amazing experiences, as I have had: the warm welcome, the wide-open beaches, the delicious local food, and if they do, perhaps they’ll decide to return year after year, enjoying the beauty on our doorstep.
For those more seasoned visitors, who are now seriously thinking about moving to the coast, we have some great features on launching a coastal business starting on p75, followed by 10 ready-made businesses you can buy today.
I hope you all have a great summer holiday, you deserve a break! And as we come out of a year of social restrictions, we need to remember that we don’t know what others have been through; first and foremost, we must be kind to each other.
