ZZAP 64 Magazine – March-April 2022
English | 62 pages | pdf | 51.7 MB
So this month we launched a new Kickstarter to raise funds to print a new book on the complete guide to Mastertronic games on the Commodore 64. The book itself was written, and formatted, by Colin Poole from the Let’s Talk Retro channel on Youtube and was shown to me 12 1months or so ago – pretty 1much complete.
We are spending some time writing mini-reviews for the 215 or, so games that: are covered and off’ to print it will go as the Kickstarter campaig1n has already passed its
goal by some way. The Mastertronic label allowed the young gamer of the time to really build up their collection very quickly with each title costing just £1 .,99 compared to £5.95 and £9.99 for other games at the ti1me. There were some classic games available as well – Finders Keepers, Spellbound, Kikstart 1 and 2 and Action Biker and many, many more.
Not all the games were great by any stretch of the imagination – some were worth buying just because you knew your favourite composer had composed the m1ain music for the game. Many ,of Rob Hubbard’s most memorable tunes are within Mastertronic titles.

There are some great perks left including signed prints from the inlay cover art of Mark J Brady and John Smyth. Speaking to these guys has been a real pleasure in the run-up to the campaign starting. I am even talking1 to John,, who is now 75 and retired, to produce us some brand new art (on ,a board like the old days) for a game, that will no doubt appea1r on the Kickstarte1r before it ends.
Hope you can support the campaign – the book will be published in August this year.
