Welcome at Your Home and Garden Magazine October 2023 Issue
The other day I was looking at houses for sale on a website in an “if I won Lotto” moment. I came across one that was everything I ever wanted in a place right down to the amazing low maintenance garden. Except, it was on a busy road, which would completely nix it for me as a pet owner. Dogs are okay because they’re trainable but cats – well, they do the opposite of everything you want them to. Like now, I have so much bush out back of the house that finding eggs laid by my free- and wide-ranging hens is impossible. Still, a couple of cats have wandered the long and winding drive up to the main road and, tragically, been taken. It’s a hard-learned lesson.
So I love that when Steven and Yuki knew they wanted to adopt cats, Minty and Winston, they searched for a home that would put their felines’ needs first (see page 38). They found it in Kumeū, a semi-rural township just out of Auckland. The cats are happy and the owners got more than what they could have real estate-wise if they’d bought in the city – bonus.
Because it’s officially spring now, we’re thinking about spending time outside, so you’ll find a guide on creating the best indoor-outdoor flow on page 72. Let’s face it, that’s on every Lotto winner’s wishlist. Enjoy the warmer weather.
