From “Vegan Restaurant of the Year” and “Chef of the Year” to “Most Sustainable Restaurant” and “Vegan Chain Taking Over the World,” you’ll find our winners and nominees throughout this magazine issue . Going plant-based is one of the most significant ways you can positively impact climate change.
That’s why for this year’s annual awards, we chose to feature only 100% vegan businesses and add a category specifically for restaurants focused onsustainability.
I’d like to celebrate the fact that food is finally becoming a part of the sustainability conversation. Recently, I had the privilege of attending an EnviroVoters event in Los Angeles. The organization works to bring sustainability into the political conversation and to achieve climate justice. For the first time, they featured an all-vegetarian menu—with many vegan options. I was also recently invited to a tasting for an all-vegan restaurant at Disneyland’s California Adventure, a special launch for their Food & Wine Festival. Disney conceptualized the plant-based eatery, in part, to support the company’s sustainability initiative. These are just two examples of brands working to create change. But brands aren’t the only changemakers out there. Many celebs are using their platforms to speak out on the importance of a plant-based lifestyle.
We have two special interviews in this issue ( Reminder we offer you free magazine download of this issue ). The first is influencer, entrepreneur, and America’s Mom, Tabitha Brown. Brown shows up fully in whatever she does. Her authenticity and positivity are just what we need in this world. Her compassion for people is as strong as her compassion for animals. The second is acclaimed artist and activist Leona Lewis. Lewis recently opened her second plant-based coffee shop in LA and continues to dedicate herself to the vegan movement. In addition to awardwinning restaurants and celeb interviews, you’ll also find our regular features throughout. These include Vegans on the Street, Grocery Hauls, Sustainable Apparel Essentials, and more.
The vegan movement has come a long way. Each year, I see the progress we’ve made toward a more environmentally conscious food system. Congrats to the winners and nominees of this year’s awards!
