Welcome…
This month issue, we’re delving into the make-up of some of the biggest acts around to find out what exactly makes their tunes tick.
We’ve interviewed a slew of guitarists who reveal some of the songwriting approaches they’ve employed to pen their latest masterpieces.
Our cover star Sam Fender has garnered wide acclaim for his direct, indie-style rock and meaningful lyrics. He’s the real deal as a songwriter, and, with his brilliant sophomore album Seventeen Going Under released just days ago, he’s an artist on the rise right now. In our exclusive interview, Sam talks about the creative process and the gear he’s been recording with, and he gives us an insight into some of his influences, too.
September saw the surprise announcement of ABBA’s reunion. If you’re not sold on them (and I acknowledge they’re perhaps not every guitarist’s cup of tea!), let me put this to you: Sam Fender, James Dean Bradfield, Dan Hawkins and Ginger Wildheart all reference ABBA for their influence and songwriting prowess in this very Magazine issue. Clearly, the reunion is going to be massive, so we’ve interviewed Stockholm-born session guitarist Janne Schaffer (he played on 50 ABBA songs), who talks about how some of those classics were written and recorded.
Elsewhere, we talk to Alice In Chains’ Jerry Cantrell, Larkin Poe’s Rebecca and Megan Lovell, The War On Drugs’ Adam Granduciel, Bullet For My Valentine’s Matt Tuck and Michael Paget, and more – so I hope there’s plenty of inspiration that you can take to invigorate your own songs. Enjoy the issue!
