Welcome to your March edition …
On the cover this month we have the only sixth known Edward III gold leopard, excessively rare and of major numismatic significance. We also have a rare Anglo Saxon great square-headed brooch, sadly damaged by the plough but never the less a lovely example. It was found by Robert Turrell who describes the circumstances around his fantastic discovery. John Rebman recounts finding a superb Post Medieval gold swivel seal ring and Adam Staples shares his research on its history. There’s also another Bronze Age hoard, again found on a Woburn Detecting Store’s dig and a fantastic double-headed Roman silver rarity discovered by young Paddy Hooper.
There are two field tests this month that look at the new Deus II from XP and the new Atrex by RUTUS. Gordon Heritage looks at understanding Iron Bias on the Equinox and explains how you can use these features to better effect. Rallies are often a ‘bug bear’ to archaeologists and Professor Michael Lewis writes how rally organisers can help get your finds recorded when at (or after) these events.
