Here they come, walkin’ down the street. They get the funniest looks from everyone they meet. Hey, hey, it’s the Monkees and they are monkeying around in the brand new issue of Infinity. The Monkees TV series, telling of the misadventures of a struggling pop group, ran from 1966 to 1968 and made superstars of Davy Jones, Peter Tork, Mickey Dolenz and Mike Nesmith. It all ended as quickly as it began with their weirdly surrealistic nightmare of a movie, Head (1968), but their music lives on and their story is a fascinating one!
We’re pretty certain some Monkees hits appeared on the ‘cheap as chips’ Top of the Pops albums that proliferated during the 1970s featuring cover versions of top ten hits. They used scantily clad young female models on the album covers to sell their product, as you’ll discover in our somewhat racy feature!
Also in Infinity 45 we look back at the scary kiddie TV show Children of the Stones, starring Blake’s Seven’s Gareth Thomas, and you can ‘knock it off with them negative waves’ as we join Clint Eastwood’s Kelly and his heroes in a WW2 bank robbery. Other treats awaiting you here include Sounds of the Force, exploring the unlikely success of Star Wars on radio, and a huge feature on the making of The Giant Behemoth, a British-made 1950s monster movie favourite that had a very troubled production history. We also remember the tough-guy telly ‘tecs of
Target comic, interview Space 1999’s Barry Morse and talk toons with the great Chuck Jones. Don’t miss this typically fabulous issue of Britain’s fastest-growing sci-fi, fantasy and cult TV magazine!
