SFX – June 2020

There’s an alternate universe somewhere – one without that virus – where the issue of SFX Magazine you’re holding is very different. Something altogether more celebratory, given the world’s biggest scifi, fantasy and horror magazine turns 25 this month. You’ll forgive us, I hope, for a somewhat more subdued celebration – albeit an issue that’s still absolutely jam-packed with exclusives. And while she may not be heading our way for a few months yet, I felt it was important to stick with our original plan to have Wonder Woman on the cover – taking us full circle from our first-ever issue with the ahead-of-its-time “girl power” icon Tank Girl kicking ass and gracing our front page way back in 1995.
Trust me, I could waffle on about how brilliant SFX is forever. I’ve only been here for a year – and it’s honestly been the best year of my professional life – but I’ve been a reader since buying that very first issue. I’ve always felt a part of the SFX family, and hopefully you do too. Over the years, the team have done some truly brilliant things – and that continues, thanks to Ian, Jon, Nick, Tara and Ed, all currently bringing you more such brilliance from their respective homes/evil lairs. But we couldn’t still be doing this if it weren’t for you lovely lot – a genuinely bloody brilliant, and loyal, readership. Here’s to the next 25 years!
