Hi From the Kitchen

HERE’S WHAT HAPPENS WHEN I GO
UPSTAIRS TO THE TEST KITCHEN: They offer me something (delicious) to eat, and then we sit down to go over their recipe ideas. I tend to love everything they suggest, and maybe you think there’s a direct connection there: Feed Sarah, and she’ll say yes to whatever we want to do! I’m not going to lie—I love to eat their food—but I don’t think
that would work more than once (OK, maybe…three times?).
Mainly, I say yes to the Test Kitchen staff’s ideas because they are smart, thoughtful, and creative cooks who have an amazing ability to marry nutrition and flavor. But if anything does put me in the mood to approve ideas, it’s actually not the food itself, but the warmth with which it’s offered. It’s second nature to the Test Kitchen staff to make a visitor—even one who is there
for meetings regularly—feel welcome, and that spills over to the recipes they develop. They’re always looking out for you too.
This month at Prevention USA magazine their big idea, while not about making up new recipes, came from that hospitable spirit. “How about a story on having a cookbook club?” they asked me. “What’s that?” I asked. The answer is on page 76: It’s like a book club, but instead of getting together to talk about a novel, you all cook from the same cookbook and have a party to eat together. After a lot of research and recipe testing, the Test Kitchen chose five new cookbooks they think you’ll love. I hope you’ll try a cookbook club with your friends. Think of us in our kitchen—we’re always thinking of you in yours!
