Welcome at Practical Classics Magazine May 2023 Issue

The year is up and running, and it has started with a smile. How do I know? Well, the sun is out and we’ve just had the PC Resto Show! Meeting so many likeminded souls under one roof at the Practical Classics Classic Car and Restoration Show was a true tonic after a tough winter. I was humbled by the efforts clubs and individuals had gone to in order to make the three days at the NEC really matter – some of the tasks completed were simply astonishing.
It was proof, once again, of the enduring appeal, the addictive attraction, of classic car restoration and revival. It was also proof that the skills we need to keep our older cars on the road are still there and, judging by the number of younger people in the halls, there is hope for the future too.
In the Classic World area I helped give out the Bright Young Sparks award to Katie Bushell, a young woman with a bright future in classics… and she is not alone. There were dozens of worthy entries from young people who are deeply embedded in the classic world already.
It seems to me, at last, that our hobby is really opening itself up to the next generation… the virtual clubhouse door truly has ‘welcome’ written on it and the PC Show, the ‘Friendly Show’, bears witness to that fact. Finally a huge thank you to everyone involved in the show and to CCA Auctions who helped raise £5062 for NHS Charities by donating its fees on the sale of our project Reliant Rebel to the charity pot.
