This edition of Knitting celebrates some of the producers in our industry focused on the future not only of their own markets, but of the planet as a whole, and are actively working to reduce their impact and ours on the Earth’s resources. We’ve got a collection of patterns in yarns that have been ethically sourced and produced in all sorts of different ways, and we look at some stories behind them. Designs range from Christine Boggis’ Seeds of Love sweater, made using recycled wool, to Linda Lencovic’s lovely Centaurea wrist warmers in British Blue-faced Leicester wool and from Emma Wright’s cute cropped intarsia sweater Heather in Erika Knight’s wool-and-nettle blend Wild Wool to Caroline Birkett’s luxury throw in The Fibre Co’s gorgeously soft Tundra. We’ve also got a profile of North Devon-based John Arbon, who, as well as championing his local sheep and alpacas, has built up his mill from lovingly-reconditioned machines that were otherwise headed for the scrap heap. So with all that plus all our regular features, stitch with a clearer conscience and play your part in saving the world with the February issue of Knitting, out now!
