Welcome at Ideal Home UK Magazine August 2023 Issue

I need to backtrack on a few things I’ve said here before. The first was when I stated we were definitely not going to tackle the garden this year, as we’d spent all our reno budget on the new kitchen. However, having installed huge sliding doors to give us an amazing view outside, looking out at what was, to put it kindly, a bit of an eyesore, wasn’t really what we’d had in mind!
With very little funds left, we’ve given our outdoor space a pretty decent makeover without spending a fortune. We laid new turf so now we have a lawn not a patch of mud, and Mr Young has patiently built a deck in snippets of free time, and created a G&T terrace in the process (it’s in the spot that gets the end-of-the-day sun = bliss). And the other thing I’m taking back? I’ve always proclaimed that I’m not a gardener. And yet… Something has changed this year, possibly kicked off by my first trip to the Chelsea Flower Show; possibly thanks to a closer link now between our house and garden. I think I might have caught the gardening bug. I have a thriving herb patch that I lovingly tend, and I even planned, created and planted up new, woodland-themed borders in a much-neglected area. Will this passion last beyond the warmer months? Who knows! But at least I now have a lovely garden to enjoy spending time in this summer.
