For anyone looking to get fit, there’s never been a wider range of options. Home workouts have surged since lockdown fitness tech firm Peloton reports a 172 per cent increase in sales of home kit). Last month, Apple announced the launch of its fitness classes and there are many apps and online training sessions.
Despite so much variety, the obesity rate in the UK is estimated to affect one in four adults. Almost 63 per cent of adults are overweight. The pandemic hasn’t helped. According to online

We have to make exercise a priority, but if you aren’t motivated, you’ll always struggle to stick to a routine when obstacles crop up.
You need to find that one thing that works for you. It must be an activity you can imagine doing regularly that motivates you. You also need to find your ‘why’. You need a compelling reason to exercise so that when it’s dark, cold, raining or you’re tired, you get up off the sofa or out of bed and do your workout anyway. For some, it’s health related, especially if they’ve had a scare. For others it might be about being a good role model for their children. For me, it’s about wanting good quality of life in my later years and having the energy now to take care of my family. Find your ‘why’ and things will fall into place.
Meanwhile, let this issue of Women’s Fitness inspire you. We have workouts, yoga tips and a winter fitness guide to help keep you active this season. Stay active, feel healthy. See you next month.
