Writing Magazine – August 2023
English | 81 pages | pdf | 21.45 MB
It’s never more important to hold onto the things that really matter to us – like writing – than in tough times. Writing is how we make sense of the world. More than that, though, it can be a useful way of adding to the pot, which is why, in this issue, we’ve put together a six-page special on freelancing. Whether you’re new to selling your words for money or a seasoned pro riding out a changing marketplace, turn the pages and get your freelance mojo fired up.
The biggest worry for many new to freelancing is how to have the ideas in the first place, which is why the introductory piece is all about making money from writing about what you love. It’s worked for the piece’s author, Eugene Smith, and I’ll add that it worked for me too – I started out reviewingbooks for an indie magazine and look what it led to – being in the privileged position of encouraging the talented WM writers to explore what they love in words and send it out into the world.
Many of you have been doing just that – sending us wonderful work for our new submission slot (p34). The quality is amazing.
We can’t wait to read more, and yes, we pay you for publication – just think, it could be your first freelance piece! Happy writing, and the best of luck.
