Welcome at 911 & Porsche World Magazine Issue 332 March 2022
Is your third attempt at 2020 getting off to a good start?! I sincerely hope so. The past couple of years have proved challenging for everyone, and although we are by no means out of trouble, it’s good to see the shoots of something resembling normality entering our lives. As far as 911 & Porsche World is concerned, I’d like to pay tribute to the hard work of the magazine’s contributors during the past year, ensuring we’ve continued production without interruption, even when COVID has thrown best-laid plans into disarray. I’m not expecting 2022 to be particularly easy, but with the last twelve months seeing a significantly increased readership driving boosts in pagination and demand for bumper issues (including this one), I’m certainly excited to bring you much of what we’ve got planned for the year ahead.
Looking forward is all well and good, but it’s great to indulge in our favourite manufacturer’s illustrious past. In this issue of the world’s best-selling monthly Porsche magazine, we comb our mullets, check our filofaxes, slip into our shell suits and celebrate icons from the era of excess. Chief among our 1980s icons are the 928 and 944, but air-cooled cars also had an important role to play during the decade of Reaganomics, not least the Carrera 3.2 (arguably the period’s most popular pin-up Porsche) and the ground-breaking 956 endurance racing prototype, which announced its arrival in dramatic fashion at the 1982 24 Hours of Le Mans. Across the following pages, we examine the events leading up to this historically significant moment in Porsche’s motorsport timeline. Strap yourself in, kick back and enjoy the ride.
