Some colours are not for everyone. About a decade ago, I admitted in an interview that blue was not celebrated at my house. Ten years on, little has changed. I did try.
After I saw the words in print, I thought I sounded kind of ridiculous, even if, in my defence, my aversion was all because of my navy school uniform. So I bought a blue dress – but I still can’t bring myself to include anything of that hue in my home decoration.
Not the case for author Catherine Robertson, who welcomes us into her home this month. Her effortless use of electric blue in her Hawke’s Bay kitchen is smart and sophisticated, much like the rest of the house, which she and her husband built as a holiday home but moved to permanently after last year’s lockdown.
Celebrated choreographer Parris Goebel embraces all shades of the rainbow in her jaw-droppingly cool Los Angeles residence, which graces our cover. The mid-century abode is a shrine to the female form and delivers a masterclass in bombastic fluorescents and generously dayglo decorating.
