Welcome at Bike UK Magazine August 2021 Issue

Watching bike racing on telly is great. You get to wear your fluffy slippers while seated on plump cushions, with beer and snacks close to hand. What better way to spend a Sunday afternoon? Ah, well there is something… Sadly missing from the comfort of your living room is the spine tingling sensation that comes when you watch the start of a British Superbike race at first hand. And while the spectacle of Josh Brookes launching for orbit from Cadwell Park’s Mountain is good when watched with your bum planted on Ikea soft furnishings, it’s substantially more impressive if you are standing on the grassy bank next to the corner (but get there early to bag a good spot). MotoGP is great when watched in high definition, but even better when your chest cavity is being rattled by a bunch of bikes that are hurtling out of Woodcote corner.
It’s been a long wait for top flight racing to re-start in the UK, so we wanted to celebrate with this issue of Bike. British Superbikes go again at Oulton Park on 26-27 June, World Superbikes are at Donington on 3-4 July and the British GP is at Silverstone on 29 August. Let’s make the most of it. If you’ve never been, or have missed it for a few years, make this summer the time to soak up the spectacle. Plus, there’s always a way to make the route to the races an excuse for a decent detour.
Me? I’ll be doing at least one BSB round (I always say Knockhill, but never make it ), and will be enjoying the chest rattling experience at British GP practice. I’m always up for some grass roots sporting action too. After my experience of flat-track (p106) I’m keen to watch some of that, maybe Redcar on 14-15 August.
Enjoy the issue and join us again next month when Bike will be celebrating our 50th birthday. How the heck did that happen?
