Gun Digest – June 2021

I get questions all the time—all the time—that go something like, “What do you think about [insert name here] Precision,” or, “Have you shot the new AR from Something- Something Armament?”
Now, make no mistake: The entire staff here at Gun Digest thrives by keeping our finger on the pulse of what’s new. Aft
er all, we know guns so you know guns. But, these days, keeping up with every boutique AR company shipping some derivative of America’s rifle out their doors is like trying to keep the dandelions off the lawn in the early spring … there’s a new one every time I turn around.
But unlike those fragging’ flowery weeds,
I’ll gladly tip my hat to every AR builder of every size, whether they’re cranking out guns by the thousands or one at a time. It’s a short list of things that scream “America!” more than a family run business chasing the dream to bring more of America’s rifle to market. The plethora of companies popping up and innovating these days are making my job a challenge— and I love it.
Regardless of the potential political storm that may or may not be building on the horizon, we really are in the heyday of AR production. From the Smiths and the Sigs who kick out thousands of ARs, to the up-and-coming newbies building in their garages, the platform is getting more attention than it ever has before.
On this issue’s cover, author Patrick Roberts opens the shop door of Sons of Liberty Gun Works to share the philosophy and story of a small company that weaves the American dream into every single one of their black rifles … the type of men who would (and did) sell their car to front the capital needed to bring their rifles to market. Their story, and their rifles, are both topnotch.
For those who appreciate the effort of sweating the details, Phil Massaro dissects all the various styles and brands of riflescope rings and bases, offering his
expertise on the best options for securing optics to nearly every type of rifle. Make no mistake: Not all ring/base combos are created equal—not even close. And
if you’re a trigger junkie, be sure to pay special attention to “Trigger Tweaking,” an article calling out some of the best production and aftermarket triggers available
these days.
Those are just the first few rounds of the issue—and this Gun Digest magazine is loaded. See what I did there? So, for those of you chasing the sunrise every day, those of you burning the midnight oil and those of you fighting frustrating supply chain problems, all in an effort to bring more fi rearms to the gun counters for a public that’s hungrier than ever for anything and everything ARs—we all thank you.
